Just a week ago, the under-18s were beaten 6-2 by Birmingham City by Birmingham City and today, for the third time in four games, we’ve lost another two goal lead and have lost 4-3 against Queens Park Rangers.

1718 burnley will harris 00 500x500It was QPR who struck first blood after a quarter of an hour when they won a penalty following a foul by Vinnie Steels which they hit into the bottom right corner, but we were level within three minutes as Will Harris (pictured) scored the first of his two goals, taking it well as he run onto the ball.

The game turned our way ten minutes before half time when Harris netted his second of the game. This time he latched onto a low cross from winger Rhys Fenlon to finish well and it looked at that time as if it was a lead we would be very unlikely to lose.

A goal in front at half time, it was quickly 3-1 at the start of the second half when Ne-Jai Tucker fired home from the left of goal but QPR weren’t out of it and pulled one back a few minutes later. We then had a number of chances to restore the two goal advantage but failed to take any of them and, incredibly and unexpectedly, QPR levelled it at 3-3 with just over twenty minutes remaining.

Young right-back Joel Connolly was sent off just a few minutes from the end but it was QPR who were to have the last word with an 88th minute winner.

Having been favourites a week and a half ago to finish in the top two, we are now out of the running for the play-offs and go into Saturday’s final game at Cardiff needing a better result than Nottingham Forest, who are at Crystal Palace, to finish third.

The team was: Harry Allen, Joel Connolly, Udoka Chima, Edon Pruti, Vinnie Steels, Rhys Fenlon (Dylan Moonan 84), Cricky Conn-Clarke, Joe Conley, Ne-Jai Tucker, Mitch George (Jayden Major 69), Will Harris. Subs not used: Kai Calderbank-Park, Joe McGlynn.
