Hull City are tonight’s opponents at Curzon Ashton as our under-23 team play their last match of 2017 in the Professional Development League.

1718 burnley anders lindegaard 02 500x500This team has undertaken the biggest change at Burnley during the year. We’d been out of any sort of competitive league since withdrawing from the Central League at the end of the 2011/12 season and, barring a few cup ties, had played nothing more than behind closed doors friendlies.

The year kicked off with three 1-0 wins against Fleetwood, Wigan and Leeds while this season’s programme at Curzon Ashton kicked off with another 1-0 win against Leeds when Dwight McNeil scored the only goal of the game.

Our opponents tonight at Hull and they will become the first team we’ve played home and away in the league with the away game having been played at North Ferriby back in September; the game ended 0-0 and gave us our first away point in this league.

Burnley gave Anders Lindegaard (pictured) his first game for the club that night while Fredrik Ulvestad featured in midfield, but the club have confirmed that there won’t be any senior players involved tonight with the team made up entirely from the under-23 squad and youth team and that rules out any further minutes on the pitch for both Dean Marney and Jon Walters.

To complete the fixtures, last week’s postponed game against Sheffield Wednesday has been rearranged for 1st March while the home game against Nottingham Forest has had to be moved from its original January date until 8th March due to their involvement in the FA Youth Cup. That means this will be our last home game in the league until the end of January although we will have played Newcastle at Stockport by then in the Premier League Cup.

Kick off tonight at the Tameside Stadium is 7 p.m. Entry to season ticket holders is free on presentation of your season card at the turnstile.
