Walsall moved up to second place in the Youth Alliance League on Saturday with a comprehensive 6-1 win against Accrington Stanley. It’s a win that has taken them above Bury, who were without a game, and they remain just a point behind leaders Wigan although they have played two games more.

Wigan remain favourites and it certainly looks likely that the winners this season will come from the top three with Tranmere potentially having an outside chance whilst down at the bottom there is no respite for Morecambe who lost for the 13th time this season and are very unlikely to pick enough points to move up.

The table does look upside down in some ways with Carlisle, Burnley and Rochdale the next three clubs when you move upwards from Morecambe. It’s not that long ago that those teams would have been among the challengers for the title alongside such as Preston.

Our game against Tranmere fell victim to the weather on Saturday and tomorrow’s scheduled game against Carlisle is off with the Cumbrians already committed to a league game against Morecambe. A win for Carlisle will see them move above us and see us drop into next to bottom place although we will have three games in hand.

We are next in action this Saturday with a home game against Rochdale, Regardless of the Carlisle result tomorrow, a win would definitely see us higher than next to bottom, it would take us a point ahead of Rochdale.

The results since the last update are shown below along with this week’s fixtures, Burnley’s goalscorers and the current league table. There is also a link below to our fixtures and results, which can also be found within U21/U18 Stats.
