Last week Burnley were reported to have made an offer for Stoke forward Jonathan Walters with a clear indication from the media on the Potteries that it had been turned down.

Today the Stoke Sentinel have reported that we’ve been back with an improved offer, believed to be around £2 million, increasing to a potential £3 million, and that the player is keen to make the move to Turf Moor.

The 33-year-old Republic of Ireland international would provide some solid Premier League experience after seven years at Stoke in which he’s played 226 top flight games. Prior to that, having started his career with Blackburn, he played for a number of clubs and it was at Ipswich that he finally established himself in three years prior to his last move to Stoke.

Although born on Merseyside, he’s played international football for the Republic of Ireland and is now very close to his 50th cap. A move to Burnley would see him line up alongside four other Ireland internationals.

Neither club has commented on the speculation, but it wouldn’t be a surprise to see a deal concluded within the next few days, maybe in time for Walters to head over to his adopted Ireland with the squad next week.
