ward signsThis morning we reported that Stephen Ward was set to sign for Stoke City and that’s what he duly did earlier today where he’s committed to the Championship club for the 2019/20 season.

He’s become their sixth signing of the week; yesterday they completed the signings of Jordan Cousins (QPR), Adam Davies (Barnsley), Lee Gregory (Millwall), Liam Lindsay (Barnsley) and Nick Powell (Wigan) and today it was Wardy who will again link up with the familiar face of the former Burnley dressing room DJ Sam Vokes.

Ward is well known to Stoke boss Nathan Jones who was on the coaching staff at Brighton during the 2013/14 season when Ward was there on loan from Wolves. Jones said of him: “He’s a wonderful player with great experience, not least because he has won the Championship title twice. I’ve worked with Stephen in the past when he was on loan at Brighton and I know that technically he’s very, very good.”

“Stephen’s pedigree speaks for itself,” said someone by the name of Tony Scholes. “He has played at the very highest level and we are please we have been able to bring him to the club.”

The move will suit Wardy who was reported to be wanting a move closer to his home in the West Midlands and he said today: “It’s a new club and I want to hit the ground running and hopefully we can have a really successful year. I’m feeling fit and strong and ready to go.

“This club is built for the Premier League so that’s got to be the main priority this year. I was really excited in what the manager had to say, his philosophy and his plan for the club. As soon as I spoke to him I knew that I wanted to be here.

“I’ve had a good break, looked after myself and I’m raring to go. I’m delighted to have sorted my future.”
