Burnley went down to a 2-1 defeat against Arsenal, giving Unai Emery a third successive victory against us and his team to record successive wins at the start of the season.

He is undoubtedly pleased with the start to the season and said after the game: “Yes, really we can be happy and I think that our idea, our game plan on the pitch was knowing it was going to be tough, because we needed to adapt to their game plan; long balls, second action, pushes and high pressing. After that, we wanted to impose our game plan.

“Really, I think we won in our moments, we made the difference to win 2-1 but in a lot of moments we couldn’t impose our game plan because they pushed and their game plan was to make us struggle.”

“Overall, I’m happy,” Sean Dyche said despite the defeat. “It’s tough in the Premier League, but the growth you show is important and we came here to take the game on today. The players now have their shoulders back a little bit more and they want to take these games on. The mentality is good and the key thing for me was getting on the front foot. It’s only a measure, but it means we have that edge to us and I’m happy with that. We have to keep giving performances like that though, because that’s the measure.”

He added: “It’s tough coming to places like this and getting something, so the disappointment is more to think about over the weekend. I’m pleased with the performance though, particularly in the first half when we were very good. We mixed up our play and our pressing lines were very good. We made it very difficult for them to play out and numerous times we turned the ball over.

“In the second half they got more of a foothold in the game, but I always think putting £70m players on probably helps. We still stuck to task though and in the end it was an error from us that gave them a breakaway chance and they have a very good player who can score from those situations. There were a few nearly moments after that, so I’m not too disappointed in the performance, although that’s got us nothing from the game.”
