Everton completed the double over us last night at Goodison Park, following their 5-1 win at Turf Moor with a 2-0 victory on their home ground and it was a performance that delighted their manager Marco Silva.

Everton scored both their goals in the first twenty minutes in what was a terrific start for the home side and Silva said: “Our first thirty minutes was fantastic, almost all the first half was excellent, but for the first 30 minutes we did really well. We played offensive football with quality and there was a fantastic reaction every time we lost the ball. It was everything we planned and everything I want to see.

“We deserved the three points and all the credit goes to our players, they did well again. And to our fans, they repeated the atmosphere from our past four home games. When they are really behind us, and we are giving them what they desire, we are really strong.”

Sean Dyche, in trying to explain that early period in the game, said: “The lads have climbed a mountain in the second half of the season and there’s a human response. Twenty eight points is an incredible return, so there was always going to be a release moment. I wondered about it before the game, but they are human and they know the work they have done, so I am never going to fault them for that, that’s for sure.

“From our point of view it was a game of two halves. In the first half we weren’t a million miles off it, but we were a bit subservient and on the back foot and you are not going to get anything from that. At 2-0 down, we went in licking our wounds at half time. In the second half there was a reaction, without really opening them up with enough detail, but you want to finish the right way and in the second half I felt we did.

“I spoke to them at half time about offering that extra 1%. The collective 1% can be a powerful thing and we have to play on top of our game all the time. We don’t have the luxury of being able to have four or five not doing that, particularly away from home against a good side. In the second half it was a much better performance and much more like us.”
