Enough has been written recently about Jay Rod and our potential attempts to sign him. Reports from the West Midlands yesterday, however, did suggest that the two clubs were in negotiations regarding him and his team mate Craig Dawson who has been a perennial target for us since reaching the Premier League in 2014.

With West Brom’s interest in Reid, it was thought that it might make things easier for us, or any other club for that matter, to sign Rodriguez, but that seems to have cooled somewhat with yesterday’s news that they could be targeting Wells.

It looks as though West Brom might be prepared to pay around £5 million for the Bermudan who hasn’t made any sort of impact at Burnley other than netting a hat trick in a Premier League Cup tie against Colchester.

He signed at the end of last summer’s transfer window but was ruled out for a period because of an injury. He finally made his first team debut in the 3-0 defeat against Spurs just before Christmas, coming on as a substitute for Scott Arfield.

His appearances have only been occasional since. In total he’s made nine Premier League appearances plus one in the FA Cup at Manchester City, all ten of them coming from the subs bench.

Whether Burnley would wish to include Wells in any negotiations with West Brom remains to be seen but there is clear interest in him from the Hawthorns.
