1819 burnley steven defour 00 500x500There has been some speculation this week regarding Steven Defour and his Burnley contract with one supposed fan turning on him on social media having totally misinterpreted an article in a Belgian publication.

But Sean Dyche has today cleared things up and confirmed that the midfielder had already signed a one year extension to his contract in the summer which will see him remain at Turf Moor until the end of next eason.

“That was always the case,” Dyche said. “He was injured at the time and we leave players alone when they’re injured, so we didn’t go out to the press and say he’s here for another two years, but he is and there’s no question in house what we are talking about.”

On the subject of his injury, Dyche said: “Steven is doing really well. He’s been training with us full out for a week to ten days, and he’s looking well and feeling well. He will start a games programme, we’re hoping, next week if all goes to play. He will need a couple of games to build into it and build up to at least a ninety minutes.”

So there we have it, we’ve got Defour until 2020, and it will be even further good news when he’s got through that games programme and can again be included in the first team for the first time since the Manchester United home game last January.
