There’s just one more player who has returned for a loan and that’s Alex Whitmore who has spent the first half of the season with struggling League One club Bury.

1718 burnley alex whitmore 00 500x500Whitmore has enjoyed loans previously with Chester, Gateshead and Morecambe who wanted him back at the Globe Arena this season.

Things started well enough for him. He went straight into the side for a League Cup tie against Sunderland and then over the first two months of the season he held down a regular place. But in the turmoil that has been Bury this season, he lost his place in the team at the end of September and hasn’t featured much since.

He’s made only two appearances since, one in the Football League Trophy in November and then, surprisingly, he was recalled to the starting line up on Boxing Day when they were beaten 3-0 at home by Rotherham.

Bottom of the league, the fans weren’t happy and new manager Chris Lucketti supported them. He said: “The first half was totally unacceptable. The fans were having a go at the players and rightly so. I’m fully supportive of that and I told the players that in no uncertain terms.”

Whitmore played, in total, eleven games for Bury having made 43 appearances for Morecambe last season.

Both Lee Hendrie and Dan Agyei, currently at Bradford City and Walsall, could still be recalled this month, but Tom Anderson (Port Vale), Josh Ginnelly (Lincoln), Brad Jackson (Southport) and Chris Long (Northampton) with remain with their respective clubs until the end of the season.
