Central defender Alex Whitmore has gone out on loan again and once more has moved up a level to join Bury having spent last season at Morecambe in League Two.

1718 burnley alex whitmore 00 500x500Whitmore, now aged 21, has been with the club for five years having joined as a scholar and he was youth team captain in 2013/14 season before moving up to join the development squad. He hasn’t appeared in the first team at Turf Moor competitively but has certainly picked up some first team experience. He enjoyed loans with Chester and Gateshead in the 2015/16 season before spending last season in League Two with Morecambe for whom he played 43 times.

In June, Morecambe goalkeeper Barry Roche spoke highly of him and said that he knew teams in League One were looking at him. “I know there were teams looking at Alex Whitmore from higher divisions,” he said. “I don’t know Burnley’s plans for him but it would be no surprise if a League One side came in for him for a year to help with his development.”

The loan to Bury is until 4th January 2018, and Shakers boss Lee Clarke said: “I am delighted to be able to get Alex in with us before the start of the season. He is a real no-nonsense defender who has good experience of first team football and he will certainly bring that competition for places that I am striving for.”
