Those three second half goals that gave us a 3-0 win at Wigan on Saturday morning have helped move our under-18s into third place in the U18 Professional Development League.

1920 burnley ben woods 00 500x500We started the day in fifth place and two points behind Wigan but the victory took us a point ahead of them and we also moved ahead of Crewe. They’d been above us on goal difference but were beaten by Sheffield Wednesday who remain at the top of the league with Nottingham Forest now in second place with one point less after their 4-1 home win against Leeds.

Barnsley and Sheffield United were the other winners in the first of the north v north group games with our victory the only one by a team not playing at home. Birmingham also won at home in an outstanding north v south game against QPR.

Cardiff won at Crystal Palace in the first of the all south games which has enabled the Welsh clubs to move away from the bottom teams. With none of the higher placed teams in action it means Watford remain top of the league with a one point advantage over Charlton.

This week sees two games tomorrow, both outstanding north v south games, before we get the first full fixture list of the season in both the north and south groups when the game of the day in the south is going to be Charlton taking on 3rd place Millwall. The only game between two of the current top half in the north is our home game against Barnsley who beat Bolton two days ago.

The player featured this week is midfielder Ben Woods who joined us from Manchester United this summer and scored our third and final goal at Wigan.
