1617 burnley aiden oneill 01 1000The second week of the 2016/17 season brought about a significant change to the youth department at Turf Moor which was followed by an equally significant achievement.

The change saw Jon Pepper appointed as the club’s new academy manager and just a matter of hours after he’d started we’d seen a player come through the youth team to make a Premier League debut for the club.

That player is Aiden O’Neill (pictured above), and when he made his debut as a late substitute against Liverpool he became the first youngster to have played in the youth team and gone on to make a league debut since Joe Jackson at Blackpool in April 2012, and the first since Joe Jakub in 1976 to make a top flight debut other than Chris McCann who had previously played at the level below.

It seemed the right time to re-introduce the roll of honour showing all the players who have graduated through from the youth team to the first team which started, the club recognise, with Tommy Lawton and Ken Ashbridge in 1936.

A change has been made on the top menu to facilitate this feature. Where Squad List was previously on the top menu, this has been replaced by Players. A drop down menu now includes Squad List and Burnley FC Youth Academy Graduates which is a menu for all the graduates who are listed on a set of seven pages with the dates shown on the menu.
