Youth team at Barnsley today
Having had games called off against Leeds and Sheffield United in the last two weeks, the youth team will be pleased to be back in action this morning with an away game against Barnsley.
We’d kicked off 2019 in good form under new coach Tony Philliskirk. It started with a draw against Sheffield Wednesday and was followed by wins against Bolton and Crewe in which we scored four goals both times.
Then came the break because of the weather so we’ll be hoping for the opportunity to edge a little bit closer to the top three. Currently fourth, we are four points behind third place Nottingham Forest while leaders Sheffield Wednesday and Leeds both have one point more.
Our opponents today are currently next to bottom in the league and we’ll be hoping to complete a double over them having beaten them 3-2 at Gawthorpe back in September with goals from Kai Smith, Mitch George and the winner from Matt O’Neill (pictured).
If so, it will repeat last season’s results when we took six points from the Tykes. Having won 1-0 at home, we beat them 3-0 away with a goal from Jordan Cropper and a Tinashe Chakwana brace.
Today’s game is being played at Barnsley’s training ground which is adjacent to Oakwell and kick off is at 11 a.m.
