Youths looking for goals and points against Tranmere
When Tyler Shrimpton scored to complete a 4-1 win against Morecambe in the Youth Alliance League on 9th January it wasn’t expected that we would go into tomorrow’s game against Tranmere at Gawthorpe still looking for our next goal.
That’s the case however. We’ve played just twice since, losing 3-0 against Wigan and drawing 0-0 against Blackpool, both home games played away because of problems at Gawthorpe. Tomorrow though it is a reverse situation with us hosting Tranmere in what should be an away game.
Tranmere are currently in fourth place, and that’s where they ended last season. They’ve already beaten us this season and in 2014/15 they won one and drew the other against us and knocked us out of the Youth Alliance Cup.
We have to go back some way to find our last victory against them at this level. It was just days short of four years ago when goals from Shay McCartan and Jason Gilchrist gave us a 2-0 win in February 2012.
It was a team in form at the time which had gone four months without defeat and we lined up with a side which featured only two players still with the club, they are Luke Conlan and Gilchrist.
Tranmere will be looking to put pressure on the top three with a win in what is their first game for two weeks when they drew 1-1 at Port Vale.
Their home game against Accrington last week was postponed as was the midweek home game against Fleetwood.
Burnley can move up one place with a win. Rochdale are currently two points ahead of us but without a game this weekend.
Kick off tomorrow at Gawthorpe is 11 a.m.
