Burnley’s 0-0 draw at Millwall in the U18 Professional Development League moved us up one place to third in the north group but took us further away from the top two who both recorded victories.

1819 burnley dylon meredith 00 500x500It would have been something of a shock had leaders Sheffield Wednesday not won. They travelled to Colchester, bottom of the south group without a win all season. Probably the biggest surprise was that Wednesday won 2-1 against a team that has now conceded 85 goals in 23 games.

Second place Leeds had it slightly tougher but returned from Bristol City with a 2-0 victory but it was Nottingham Forest who slipped up; they were beaten 3-2 by south group leaders Cardiff which has allowed us to gone one point ahead of them.

There has been no confirmation of the Burnley team for the first game following the release of eight players so it isn’t known whether any of those players were involved although we know both Ethan Kershaw and Kian Yari were with Barnoldswick Town. A small group of three Burnley supporters did attend, or try to attend, the game but they were refused entry.

It was all square between north and south with four wins each and two draws, the other between Watford and Hull with Ipswich recording the biggest win, beating Bolton 6-2. Cardiff and Ipswich, the top two, pulled further away from third place Millwall. Cardiff hold a four point lead over Ipswich who themselves are five points ahead of Millwall.

An outstanding game in the south kicked off this afternoon between Crystal Palace and QPR but the game was abandoned due to a waterlogged pitch.

It’s the north’s turn to play host this Saturday with the big game that between Leeds and Cardiff. We play QPR and will be looking for a win to try and push us closer to that top two.

The player featured this week is Dylon Meredith, another of the players who was released last week.
