Had we beaten Bolton last week, our under-18s would have been travelling to play Sheffield Wednesday as leaders of the northern group of the U18 Professional Development League, but the defeat allowed Wednesday to return to the top after their big 6-0 win at Barnsley.

Wednesday had lost top spot a week earlier after they lost for the first and only time this season at Leeds, and there is no doubt that they will provide us with what is likely to be our sternest test of the season.

1718 burnley ethan kershaw 00 500x500Our last two away games have seen us win 3-1 at Birmingham, who have now slipped down the league, and drawn 1-1 at Nottingham Forest, and they remain above us on goal difference, so acting coach John Townson will gain encouragement from those two games.

He said of Wednesday: “They are a good side, there are no doubts about that, but I think in the past couple of games away from home against good sides, we have shown we can put up a good performance and come away with something from it.”

Townson added: “We have a fully fit squad for the weekend, but the loan lads will be unavailable and with their respective clubs.” That could see returns for Dan Moss and Dylon Meredith, both of whom have been out for some time. Ethan Kershaw (pictured) will also be available. His loan at Barnoldswick Town ended this week and they tweeted: “On a selfish note got to say gutted to announce that Ethan Kershaw has left to Barlick to return to Burnley, he has been fantastic for us and we all wish him the best of luck.”

This fixture last season, played at the beginning of March, ended in a 2-2 draw that kicked off a good run in to the end of the season which saw us lose just one league game in the final seven games, picking up 14 points.

Kick off tomorrow at the Middlewood Training Ground is 11 a.m.
