Eight games were played in the U18 Professional Development League two days ago with a grand total of 35 goals scored but they passed Burnley by with our game against Colchester United at Gawthorpe ending in a 0-0 draw.

Burnley haven’t offered any information on the game which was scheduled to start on Saturday at 2 p.m. but was delayed due to the late arrival of Colchester. However, it’s a draw that has kept us in ninth place in the table, ahead of pointless pair Peterborough and Wigan but now level on points with Sheffield United who have a game in hand.

There was only one goal in Wigan’s home defeat against Bristol City but poor Peterborough went down to a 6-0 loss at home against Watford but this wasn’t the biggest defeat suffered in this round of fixtures; QPR travelled to Fleetwood and went home having suffered a 9-0 hammering. Others to score big were Sheffield Wednesday, who beat Bournemouth 4-0, and Crewe who ran out 5-3 winners against Millwall.

Birmingham were without a game but they still sit top of the north group with four wins from their four games. Sheffield Wednesday are one of three teams with nine points and there’s too is a 100% record with just three games played.

Fleetwood are now the north’s highest goalscorers with twelve from their three games; scoring nine in one of them does help. Peterborough have now conceded the most with sixteen goals having gone in against them in four games.

The best defensive record can be seen at the top of the south group. Bristol City lead the way with ten points from four games; they are still to concede a goal. There are no teams in the south without a point; it’s Cardiff at the bottom with just one point from a draw in their three games.

This league continues next week with teams playing against opponents from the other group with those in the south playing at home when Birmingham will again be without a game, giving both Sheffield Wednesday and Crewe the opportunity to catch them with their games at Charlton and Watford. South group leaders Bristol City host Peterborough as the best defence comes up against the worst and we travel to QPR who will be smarting from that big defeat at Fleetwood.
