A first Burnley league game for England
Burnley’s game against Wolverhampton Wanderers tomorrow will be refereed by Darren England and it will be the first time he’s refereed one of our league games.
We’ve seen him twice before, both at home and both in cups. He had a nightmare of a game last season when Sunderland knocked us out of the League Cup and recently was in charge when we went out of the FA Cup against Bournemouth.
It was Wolves again when he refereed his first Premier League game as a select group official; this time he was in charge of their 1-0 home win against Fulham at the beginning of October.
He’s refereed a total of 24 games this season of which just nine have been Premier League games; the others have all been in the Championship or cup games. In those 24 games there have been a total of 64 yellow cards and one red card. Of those yellows, 25 have gone to home team players and 39 to away team players. The only player he’s sent off this season is Coventry’s Michael Rose in their 4-0 home defeat against Blackburn.
England’s most recent game was in the Championship, Brentford’s 1-1 home draw against Cardiff. The two players yellow carded were the two Brentford players Tarique Fosu-Henry and Sergi Canos.
David Coote will be fourth official at Molineux. His most recent Burnley game was the 3-0 home loss against Chelsea in October. Michael Oliver, who last refereed us when we won 3-0 at Crystal Palace, will be on VAR duty.
