Our home game tonight against Wolves will be refereed by Thomas Bramall and it will be a first ever Turf Moor game for the referee from South Yorkshire.

He has previously refereed three Burnley games, last season’s 1-0 defeat at Watford and the 0-0 draw at Blackpool which he added to this season when he refereed our 2-0 defeat at Newcastle.

Bramall had a rapid rise from refereeing in the National League in the 2017/18 season to becoming a Select Group referee ahead of last season despite limited experience in the Championship. H was awarded his first Premier League game at the end of August 2022 when he took charge of the game between Fulham and Brighton at Craven Cottage.

By the end of last season, he’d refereed eight top flight games in England and two more in Japan during March of last year. This season he’s added eight more including our game at Newcastle and for tonight’s opponents home game against Everton.

He’s refereed 24 games in total. Nine of the others have come in the Championship with one in League One, two in the League Cup and four in the FA Cup. Those games have seen him show a total of 103 yellow and two red cards. Forty-two of those yellow cards have gone to home team players and sixty-one to away team players.

The first of his two red cards came in his first Premier League game of the season when he dismissed Liverpool’s Alex Mac Allister in their 3-1 win against Bournemouth. That decision was a poor one that was turned over on appeal. More recently he sent off Kalvin Phillips playing in West Ham’s 2-0 defeat at Nottingham Forest.

Bramall’s most recent game was the 0-0 draw between Preston and Hull at Deepdale 31 days ago. There were two yellow cards in the game for Preston’s Ali McCann and Hull’s Ryan Giles.

As was the case when Bramall refereed us at Newcastle, the fourth official will be Matt Donohue who brought last season to an end when he refereed our 3-0 home win against Cardiff. Chris Kavanagh is on VAR duty; he last refereed Burnley when we beat Sheffield United at home in November.
