The under-23s have extended their unbeaten run to four games tonight with a 1-1 draw at Nottingham Forest but it needed two stoppage time goals to prevent a goalless draw.

Michael Jackson made two changes to the team that beat Reading. Jacob Bedeau came in for Kevin Long who is likely to be on the first team bench tomorrow, while Sam Unwin, who scored our stoppage time third against Reading, partnered Joe McGlynn up front in place of Michael Mellon.

The game had little in it with neither side putting the other under any real pressure. In a quiet first half only Unwin came close when set up by Owen Dodgson while in the second half the closest we had to a goal was a Forest shot that went just wide of the left hand post.

It was all square at ninety minutes with referee Robert Massey-Ellis playing a further four minutes and finally that deadlock was broken but left us facing defeat when Alex Gibson-Hammond fired into the bottom corner in the second of the added minutes.

But we weren’t beaten and in the final minute an Ethen Vaughan cross found Anthony Glennon (pictured) at the far post to turn it into the net for his first under-23 goal since he scored in a 5-0 win against Bolton in December 2019.

A point then, to add to the seven points won in the previous two games. Our next league game is against Norwich at Turf Moor two weeks tonight but before then we have away games at Bolton in the Central League Cup and Sheffield United in the Premier League Cup.

Tonight’s teams were;

Nottingham Forest: Nicky Hogarth, Mohamed Dräger (Dale Taylor 81), Baba Fernandes, Sam Sanders, Aaron Donnelly, Braian Ojeda (Finlay Back 81), Tyrese Fornah, Oliver Hammond, Ateef Konate, Lewis Salmon (Alex Gibson-Hammond 64), Julian Larsson. Subs not used: Alex Akers, Billy Fewster.

Burnley: Sam Waller, Finlay Armstrong, Jacob Bedeau, Bobby Thomas, Anthony Glennon, Ne-Jai Tucker (Ethen Vaughan 86), Anthony Gomez Mancini (Ben Woods 60), Mark Helm, Owen Dodgson, Sam Unwin (Dara Costelloe 72), Joe McGlynn. Subs not used: Lewis Thomas, Jake Rooney.
