Our play-off place in Division 2 of Premier League 2 will hinge on getting a win in today’s game at Reading with anything else making it very unlikely that we will finish in the top five.

Nothing is going to be decided this weekend but given that we’ve played two games more than a number of clubs who can still get above us, and given that our one remaining game after today is at runaway leaders Leeds, it does seem that anything but a victory against Reading will end our hopes after we’ve picked up only one point from the two most recent games against Sunderland and Norwich.

Reading themselves are one of the teams with two games in hand on us and they are currently three points behind us. Their most recent four games have all been at home but they’ve lost three of them with the only victory in those games coming five weeks ago when they won 2-1 against Crystal Palace. Since they have lost against Sunderland 2-0 and Middlesbrough 4-2.

Our home game against them was played in mid-December, bringing us a 3-1 win. Anthony Gomez Mancini scored early in the game but Reading were quickly level with a Jayden Onen goal. But it was Joel Mumbongo who scored the goals to win it for us, scoring in first half stoppage time to restore the lead and adding his second just past the hour.

This afternoon’s game will be played at Reading’s Bearwood Park Training Ground with a 1 p.m. kick off.
