Mike Dean will referee our home game tonight against Everton in what could be the last time he referees us with his retirement at the end of the season now confirmed.

From the other side of the Mersey, Dean has refereed games against Liverpool in the last two seasons, awarding us the penalty from which Ashley Barnes scored the winner at Anfield last season, but this will be the first time he’s refereed any of our games against Everton.

His most recent Burnley game, at home against Manchester United in February, was the fiftieth time he’d refereed us, a run that started with the home game against Bournemouth in the 1997/98 season. He has also refereed us more often than anyone in the Premier League; tonight will be the 29th.

Dean is no longer the most recent referee to send off a Burnley player; that is now Paul Tierney. Dean’s red card went to Robbie Brady at Huddersfield in January 2019. It was Dean’s 99th Premier League red card. Later in the season, Ashley Young became number 100 and that total has now increased to 114 including West Brom’s Semi Ajayi, the last player to be sent off playing against us.

He’s refereed 22 games this season, twenty in the Premier League and two in the FA Cup in which he’s shown seventy yellow and two red cards. Forty of the yellow cards have gone to home team players and thirty to away team players. The two players he’s sent off this season are Watford’s Emmanuel Dennis in their 3-0 home defeat against Watford and Josh Dasilva for Brentford as they were beaten 2-0 at home by Newcastle.

Mike Dean’s most recent game was Manchester City’s 4-1 FA Cup win at Southampton. The only player carded in that game was City goalkeeper Zack Steffen.

Fourth official tonight is Kevin Friend; his most recent Burnley game was the 3-0 win at Brighton. Darren England is on VAR duty and his one Burnley game in the middle was our 4-0 win at Wolves last season.
