A second Burnley game of the season for Anthony Taylor
Anthony Taylor will referee tomorrow’s home game against Wolves, his second Burnley game this season having previously refereed the home game against Arsenal back in September.
We’d become used to see more of him; he was in charge of five of our games last season, none of which were won. We have to go back to the 2019/20 season and the 2-1 home win against Liverpool to our last victory with him refereeing the game.
Taylor is considered our most senior referee now in European football and is regularly used in European competitions and internationals. Twelve of his 39 games this season have been in Europe. In his 27 domestic games he’s shown 97 yellow and four red cards. One of those yellow cards was in last week’s FA Cup semi-final between Chelsea and Crystal Palace with 49 going to home team players and 47 to away team players. Reece James (Chelsea), Paul Pogba (Manchester United), Vladimir Coufal (West Ham) and Mohammed Salisu (Southampton) are the four players he’s sent off.
His most recent Premier League game was the one between Manchester City and Liverpool at the Etihad. He yellow carded City’s Bernardo Silva along with Liverpool players Virgil van Dijk, Andrew Robertson, Fabinho and Thiago.
Fourth official tomorrow is David Coote whose most recent Burnley game was January’s 0-0 draw at Arsenal. Mike Dean refereed the recent home game against Everton and he’ll be on VAR duty for this game.
