England have been beaten 1-0 tonight by Germany in a friendly international played at Borussia Dortmund’s Signal Iduna Park with the only goal scored by Lukas Podolski in what was his last international.

But for Burnley fans the interest was very much concerning the England number 4 with Michael Keane getting his debut at full international and an impressive debut it was. He came close to opening the scoring from an early left wing corner and overall had an excellent game on the right of a back three that also included Manchester United’s Chris Smalling and former Burnley loan player Gary Cahill.

Unfortunately we couldn’t make it two with Joe Hart playing the entire game in goal with Tom Heaton on the bench but in playing the whole game Keane became the first Burnley player to start an England international since Martin Dobson won his fourth cap against Yugoslavia in Belgrade on 5th June 1974.

In winning his cap tonight, Keane has become the 75th Burnley player to win a cap for his country while with the club and the 26th of them for England. He’s now also taken the number of current players to have been capped to fourteen.

Yes, a very special night for the Clarets and a memorable one for Keano who will surely go on to win many more caps for England.
