All change after Zaroury is awarded goal
There was some debate over the goal when Burnley took the lead in the seventh minute against Huddersfield Town last Saturday. Anass Zaroury was announced as the goalscorer over the PA at the Turf while, at the same time, the big screens were revealing that Ashley Barnes had scored the goal.
Eventually Barnes was credited with the goal but it is so difficult to see from the television pictures, whatever the angle, whether he did get a touch or not.
Clearly he didn’t and today Zaroury has been credited with the goal rather than Barnes. That means Zaroury now loses the assist which has, rightly, gone to defender Jordan Beyer.
Up the Clarets has now made the necessary changes to correct this on the squad list, the post war appearances and goals, the fixtures & results and the season stats which have all been linked below.
It means Zaroury has now netted seven league goals this season to add to four in the cups while Barnes goes down to four in the league and one in the League Cup. It also means Barnes returns to having scored 49 league goals for Burnley.
