All teams have won and lost
The weekend kicked off in the Youth Alliance League with Accrington undefeated and both Preston and Wrexham looking for their first wins, but that all changed as Accrington lost and the other two won for the first time.
With Walsall having no game, a win for Accrington against bottom of the league Wrexham would have seen them go top for the first ever time. It was not to be. In the shock result of the day, Stanley were beaten 3-0 at home by the National League team.
Wrexham were four points adrift of next to bottom Preston but they also recorded a first win and also by a 3-0 scoreline away from home, beating Shrewsbury.
Accrington have retained second place despite the defeat. Bury could have gone above them but their recent decline after such a good start continued when they were beaten by Rochdale who themselves have drawn level with Bury and trail them only on goal difference.
We are now just one point behind the pair following our win over Blackpool. That win has taken us to 17 points which is three less than we collected in the entire 2015/16 season. It’s good to see a Burnley youth team that is once again at least competitive in a league that we expect to leave at the end of the season.
Next week it is back to the cup. With the group stages finished it is down to the last eight in the Northern section and all four games will be played next Saturday along with one league game which will not compromise our current 5th place.
All last week’s results and this week’s fixtures are below along with Burnley’s 2016/17 goalscorers and the league table as it stands today.
The League Table is updated as results come in and can be found, as can Burnley’s Fixtures and Results, within U23/U18 Stats on the top menu.
