Ossett referee Andy Madley, older brother of Premier League referee Bobby, has refereed our home games this season against Fulham and Bristol City and returns for a third time tonight to take charge of our home game against Nottingham Forest.

Prior to this season he’d refereed us just twice. The first of them was the Capital One Cup tie against Plymouth in August 2012 and just about a year later he was in charge when we won 3-0 at Derby. He was dreadful that afternoon with the shocking penalty decision against Jason Shackell thankfully not costing us when Tom Heaton saved the kick.

That was it until this season and I have to say we’ve seen a much better Andy Madley in the two games and so, as we go into tonight’s game, it is fair to say that he’s had three decent games and just the one poor ninety minutes in his Burnley games to date.

This is his fifth season as a Football League referee which kicked off at Morecambe in August 2011 and their 1-0 home defeat against Barnet on the opening day of the season. He was allocated just one Championship game that season which was Hull v Peterborough in January 2012.

This season, 11 of his 30 games have been in the Championship and after tonight’s game three of his last five at this level will have been Burnley games and only one of his six games since the Burnley v Bristol City has been in the Championship.

In those 30 games, he’s issued 93 yellow cards and three red cards although the last of those red cards was in September. Of those yellows, 44 have gone to home team players and 49 to away team players.

His last game was the League One clash between Barnsley and Doncaster three days ago. There were two yellow cards in that game, Barnsley’s Aidan White and Conor Grant of Doncaster.

Andy Madley has moved up the RATE THE REF Table and he’s now 28th with a rating of 61.53 out of 100.

Hopefully, we’ll see another performance tonight similar to the two we’ve already seen this season.

The assistant referees are Jonathan Hunt (Liverpool) and David Benton (South Yorkshire). The fourth official is Football League referee Tony Harrington (Cleveland) whose last Burnley game was this season’s home fixture against Reading.
