Another Claret suffers a long term injury
It’s been a season of injuries and another one of our squad has suffered an injury that has ruled him out for the season although this one will not affect us on the pitch.
Ben Gibson is still a Burnley player but currently on loan at Championship leaders Norwich. He’s been a Burnley player for over two and a half years now which has been blighted with injuries. He had groin surgery twice in his first season and suffered an injury last season that ruled him out of the reckoning.
That was prior to early 2020 when an issue saw him leave and train for much of the rest of the season at Middlesbrough before moving to Norwich in early September on a season long loan deal with both clubs confirming that this would lead to a permanent move should Norwich regain their Premier League place.
That promotion is all but assured with Norwich now holding a fourteen point lead over third place Swansea and Gibson has played his part having featured in 27 of their 38 league games to date. The last of those came last week when they were held to a 1-1 draw against Blackburn when the central defender was forced off seven minutes from time with an ankle injury that Norwich have now confirmed has ruled him out of their remaining games and will require surgery.
It is not expected that it will have any effect on the agreed deal between the two clubs with the player still expected to make the move permanent. In thanking everyone at Norwich for their support, he said on Twitter: “I’m sure I’ll be back for pre season.”
Thanks to everyone for all of the messages and support, I’ve loved every second of my time here and I have no doubt the boys will bring it over the line very soon 💛💚 I’m sure I’ll be back for pre season 😜 https://t.co/ik1XJTx1n7
