Another draw for youth team
Following on from last week’s 1-1 draw at Sheffield Wednesday, the under-18s won another point with the same scoreline, this time at home against Sheffield United.
Again, it was a really young team that we fielded with under-16s both in the starting eleven and on the bench. We also had a trialist who played the whole game. It was a game of two penalties with Lucas Wane (pictured) giving us the lead before Sheffield United levelled with a spot kick of their own two minutes from time although we did score again through under-16 Kian McMahon-Brown which was harshly ruled out for offside.
It was one of four games played in the north group with the one south group game called off but wins for Coventry and Hull have taken them both above us in the table, leaving us in sixth place. Coventry, now fifth, beat bottom of the league Peterborough while Hull won at Crewe to move into third place.
On Friday, Barnsley beat Sheffield Wednesday which saw Wednesday drop a place to fourth while second place Barnsley are now three points clear of third.
The league takes a break this week with teams involved in the U18 Professional Development League Cup. That sees us face Birmingham at Gawthorpe this Saturday and we will have also played our outstanding game in the same cup competition at Crewe before we are next in league action at Hull on Saturday 2nd December.
