The win against Fleetwood earlier in the week has moved our under-21s, who are in sixth place in the Professional Development League, to within four points of Barnsley who currently sit one place above us.

While the under-18s are ahead of the game in their league in terms of games played, it’s the opposite for the under-21s who have played less than all but one other team in the league and up to six games less than others.

All but one of the five teams above us dropped points too. Fleetwood, of course, lost to us while Birmingham were held by Coventry who also beat Sheffield Wednesday and the Owls then suffered a second defeat at the hands of Hull. Barnsley could only draw at Peterborough so a decent run in our games in hand could see us moving close to the top two.

In the south group, Millwall went back to the top two days ago when they beat Ipswich but dropped back to second place with QPR’s win at Bournemouth yesterday in a game that would have seen Bournemouth draw level with Millwall at the top with a win.

Those results have given the top two some breathing space over Bournemouth and Swansea but all four look to be in the running for the title whereas in the north, it still looks to be between Birmingham and Sheffield United with Birmingham currently having a five point lead from three more games.

This week, the top teams all play each other. It’s second versus fourth in the south tomorrow with first facing second on Tuesday. On the same day it’s second versus first in the north.

There are ten games in total with four tomorrow, one on Monday and the remaining five next Tuesday. That includes our home game tomorrow against Coventry.

The player featured this week is Ackeme Francis-Burrell, one of the January signings.
