The voting is over to select two wide players to play in the wide positions to complete the midfield for our team of the last ten years and again it hasn’t been a close vote.

elliott arfieldScott Arfield, who made almost 200 appearances for the Clarets between 2013 and 2018, was a key player in both of our promotions and helping establish us in the Premier League. He moved on last summer to Rangers but remains a popular player with Burnley fans and, notably, also scored an Ewood Park winner.

Arfield won 669 votes in the poll and that was just above Wade Elliott who secured 628 votes to win the final midfield place. Elliott was in the side for the first two of the last ten seasons and kicked off the 2011/12 season at Turf Moor before moving on to Birmingham and it was his goal at Wembley that kicked off this ten year period with our first ever season in the Premier League.

The next two places were taken by current players Jόhann Berg Guðmundsson and Dwight McNeil. Guðmundsson, who signed from Charlton three years ago, won 316 votes to take third place with McNeil fourth having collected 214 votes, some achievement for a young player who has had just half a season in the first team.

The only other player in three figures was George Boyd won 107 votes while Chris Eagles (50), Robbie Brady (39) and Ross Wallace (21) were the other three players to reach double figures.

That’s the midfield four now of Wade Elliott, Dean Marney, Joey Barton and Scott Arfield in front of the selected goalkeeper Tom Heaton and back four of Kieran Trippier, Michael Keane, Ben Mee and Stephen Ward.

Later today, the vote will start to select the final two players, the two forwards.
