Arlen Birch was released by Burnley at the end of last season having been with the club for three years, and he’s now joined National League club AFC Fylde for the 2018/19 season.

1718 burnley arlen birch 00 500x500England youth international Birch moved to Turf Moor from Everton just after the start of the 2015/16 season. He captained our under-23 team for a time but last season found games more difficult to come by as the season progressed.

He’d won his England honours at under-16 and under-18 level during seven years with Everton but he was unable to break into the first team squad at either of his two clubs.

Having completed his signing with Fylde, who finished last season in seventh place in the National League before losing out to Boreham Wood in the play-offs, Birch said: “I enjoyed my time at Everton and Burnley, but I felt the time was right for me to start getting regular football.

“The club is heading in the right direction and they aspire to go higher which is certainly somewhere I want to be. I am still waiting to make my professional debut and I can’t wait to get the chance here.”

That debut could come to day when they play Bromley in the season opener.
