Tony Philliskirk reported yesterday how badly the pre-season had been affected due to some of the players succumbing to covid.

It has meant virtually no preparation for the new season which kicked off today at Newcastle with our young team coming home with all three points after a sensational 8-3 win.

We started well. Michael Mellon (pictured) opened the scoring on seven minutes and two minutes later that lead was doubled through Sean Etaluku.

Newcastle reacted and between the 18th and 21st minutes scored three times to turn the game on its head, but we were able to equalise right on half time with Etaluku’s second.

All square at 3-3 at half time but the second half was definitely ours. Tremaine Eastmond netted to put us back in front with Mellon making it 5-3 just past the hour. It remained at that score until six minutes from the end, but we weren’t finished; Joe Smyth-Ferguson scored twice with George Walters scoring between his two goals, both having come on as substitutes just over ten minutes from the end.

What an incredible start to the season and against all the odds given our build up.
