Martin Atkinson will referee our game at Bournemouth tomorrow and it will be his first Burnley game since he refereed the same fixture at the beginning of April last season.

This will be the twentieth time for him refereeing a Burnley Premier League game and will take him one ahead of Mike Dean as having refereed us more than anyone else in this league. It will also be his third game against Bournemouth; he’d previously refereed our home game against them in the 2016/17 season.

We did well with him last season. He took charge of four Burnley games, two at home and two away, and all four ended in victories. The other away game was at Cardiff while the home wins came against Brighton and Fulham. Our overall record with him in the Premier League is good with ten victories in the nineteen games, five of those in away games.

He’s having a busy season this time around. No one has refereed as many as his fifteen Premier League games and he can add the Community Shield game to that. In that total of sixteen games he’s shown 46 yellow and two red cards. There was one yellow card in the Community Shield, that to Kevin de Bruyne, while of the others, 20 have gone to home team players and 25 to away team players. He sent off Tottenham’s Son Heung-min in a 1-1 draw at Everton last month and more recently dismissed Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson as they beat Brighton 2-1 at Anfield.

One of our more experienced officials, and, in my view, one of our best, it might be his first Burnley game this season but it will be the fourth time he’s refereed Bournemouth in 2019/20 having previously taken charge of their win at Aston Villa and defeats at Arsenal and Newcastle. It will, however, be his first game at Bournemouth since our visit last season.

Football League referee John Brooks is the fourth official tomorrow, a referee still to take charge of a Burnley game. On VAR duty is David Coote who refereed our home win against Norwich in September.
