Aussie Gillett gets first Burnley game
Tonight’s home game against West Bromwich Albion will be refereed by Select Group official Jarred Gillett in what will be his first ever Burnley game.
Although aged just 36, he’s a very experienced referee having been an official in the A-League in Australia from 2010 to 2019. From the Gold Coast in Queensland, he moved to England to take up a post at Liverpool John Moores University and was immediately taken on by PGMOL.
He was immediately moved into Select Group 2 for the 2019/20 season and two years on was promoted to Select Group as a Premier League referee. Last season saw him referee games in the Premier League and Championship but tonight’s game will be the first time he’s stepped back into the Championship this season.
He’s refereed a total of fourteen games this season, ten of them in the Premier League, three in the League Cup and one in the FA Cup. In those games, he’s shown 47 yellow cards and just the one red card. Of the yellows, 24 have gone to home team players and 23 to away team players. The one player he sent off was Joel Bagan in Cardiff’s 2-2 home draw against Leeds in the FA Cup.
Fourth official tonight is Tom Nield who, like Gillett, has not refereed a Burnley game.
