Back to Lancaster for the under-23s
Having been beaten by Lancaster City two days ago, our under-23s will be back at the Giant Axe tomorrow where we will play Ashton Athletic.
Wednesday’s game was a semi-final in the Lockstep Trophy with Clitheroe beating Ashton Athletic at home in the other semi-final at the same time. Lancaster and Clitheroe will now face each other In tomorrow’s final but before that game, which kicks off at 3 p.m., our game against Ashton will be played at 12:30 p.m. to determine 3rd and 4th places.
It’s likely to be another mixed team with potentially a few trialists but it is one of the new signings Mark Helm (pictured) who is impressing. It’s been reported that he’s turned in some eye-catching performances
Following a third successive pre-season defeat, coach Michael Jackson said: “There are some very good technical players in there and it’s our job to give them that game management and that bit of savvy and work out the problems that are happening on the pitch.
“You don’t want to tell them all the time. You want them to work it out for themselves. Young Mark, who has just joined us, is an outstanding talent. He’s still got a long, long way to go but you can see the technical ability he’s got.”
We will follow tomorrow’s game with four more pre-season fixtures, three of them at Gawthorpe, ahead of what will be our second season in Premier League 2 Division 2.
