Bankes is referee for Sheffield United game
Tomorrow’s home game against Sheffield United will be refereed by Liverpool based official Peter Bankes in what will be his fourth Burnley game.
Bankes became a Football League referee for the 2014/15 season and it was in the next season when we first came across him. He refereed the away win at Rotherham and then the home draw against Ipswich, in neither did he have a good game.
He’ s continued to be used more in the Championship and he’s refereed a total of 23 games this season which have seen him hand out 103 yellow and three red cards. Of those yellow cards, 46 have been given to home team players and 57 to away team players. All three players he’s sent off have been from the away team with the only one in the Premier League being Newcastle’s Valentino Lazaro who was dismissed in the closing stages of their 1-0 defeat at Crystal Palace in February.
Peter Bankes has refereed just one game since the restart, that being Arsenal’s 4-0 win against Norwich on Wednesday of this week. He yellow carded Arsenal goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez along with four Norwich players, Lukas Rupp, Kenny McLean, Mario Vrancic and Marco Stieperman.
Anthony Taylor will be the fourth official tomorrow; his most recent Burnley game was our 2-1 home win against Leicester in January. On VAR duty is Stuart Attwell. We have to go back to February of last year for his last Burnley game, our 3-1 win at Brighton.
