Ashley Barnes, who was introduced as a substitute at half time, and Johann Berg Gudmundsson were voted our two best players in the disappointing 4-0 defeat at West Brom last Monday.

It really was a poor performance from the Clarets who were quickly 2-0 down in a game which saw Barnes help to improve things in the second half when Gudmundsson had our only two shots on target.

Gudmundsson won the man of the match vote with 37%, ahead of Barnes who took second place with 30%. Behind those two it was goalkeeper Tom Heaton in third place with 11% and Jeff Hendrick came in fourth with a 7% share of the vote.

It was the same top three in the player ratings with the top two switching places on a night when not one single player received close to the average six out of ten. Barnes was top with a rating of 5.57, followed by Gudmundsson with 5.43. Heaton was again third with 5.00 while Michael Keane took fourth place with a rating of just 4.79 out of 10.

It’s all very close at the top of the Up the Clarets Player of the Year table now. While Gudmundsson and Barnes both won eight points, there were four points for Heaton and one each for Hendrick and Keane.

Heaton has now moved into second place with 46 points and that’s just one point ahead of Ben Mee and one point behind Keane who still leads the way. Those three are some way ahead with Steven Defour in fourth place some 17 points behind the top three.
