Last Friday’s win at Middlesbrough was special as we confirmed our promotion back to the Premier League at the first time of asking and it was a night when our longest serving player Ashley Barnes gave us another excellent performance before announcing that he’ll be leaving at the end of the season.

He added his fifth goal of the season to give us an early lead and his overall performance has won him both the man of the match and player ratings. He polled 38% of the man of the match vote with Josh Cullen, who is such a good, consistent player, turning in yet another top performance to take second place with a 20% share. Nathan Tella was third with 13% while Jordan Beyer won 9% of the vote to take fourth place.

We had the same top two in the player ratings and it was so, so close. Barnes had a rating of 8.40 out of ten with Cullen just behind on 8.37. Connor Roberts, who scored the winning goal, claimed third place with a rating of exactly eight while Tella came fourth having rated 7.91 out of ten.

That’s given Barnes the maximum ten points towards the Up the Clarets player of the year with Cullen winning six points. There were also three points for Tella, two for Roberts and Beyer collecting one point.

It’s extended Cullen’s lead at the top of the table to eight points ahead of Beyer with Jack Cork remaining third with a twelve point advantage over Tella. Barnes, the winner in this game, has now moved into eighth place.

Voting for the Sheffield United is still running and will do so until the end of tomorrow with the Reading vote to come next after Saturday’s game.
