Barton is February player of the month
Belatedly, the man of the match and player ratings result from the Hull game a week last Saturday has confirmed that Joey Barton has become the Up the Clarets Player of the Month for February.
The only player who could have passed him ahead of the Hull game was Michael Keane. He almost did too who battled with Matt Lowton for top place. Keane just beat Lowton to the man of the match vote. he had 33% of the vote with Lowton just behind with 32%. Ben Mee took third place with 8% while Barton secured fourth place with 6% of the vote.
The top two reversed positions in the player ratings. This time it was Lowton on top with a rating of 7.55 out of 10 with Keane not too far behind with 7.45.
The back four were the only players to record a rating above seven which gave Mee third place with 7.38 and Ward, with a rating of 7.18 out of 10, fourth place.
The points awarded for the Up the Clarets Player of the Year were eight each to Keane and Lowton, four to Mee and one each going to Barton and Ward.
That left Barton the narrow winner in February with 19 points, just two points ahead of Keane. The seven months have now seen seven different winners.
The previous six were Keane (August), Steven Defour (September), Tom Heaton (October), Johann Berg Gudmundsson (November), Mee (December) and Jeff Hendrick (January).
There’s been a switch at the top of the player of the year table too with Keane regaining the lead from Mee. Keane is the first player past 100 points; he has 102 with Mee just behind on 99. They are now some considerable distance clear of third place Heaton.
