Ben Lee in Turf Moor Tragedy
Going back to the top of the league with the win against Barnet in 1992 appeared totally irrelevant two days later with the shocking news that young Burnley apprentice footballer Ben Lee had died having fallen through the Longside roof.
Ben had been with the club for just a few months but had become something of a goalscorer in the B team. Sadly, having suffered multiple injuries in the 60ft fall onto the concrete terracing, he was pronounced dead on arrival at Burnley General Hospital.
The police had the dreadful task of contacting and informing his family while Burnley FC, in the immediate aftermath, were unable to comment.
The thoughts of Burnley supporters at the time were with Ben’s family, his parents Richard and Carol and sister Katie, and they will be today on the 30th anniversary.
