Benson in Grimsby move
Midfielder Josh Benson is the latest member of our under-23s to go out on loan having joined team mate Anthony Glennon and signed for Grimsby Town until the end of the season.
Glennon signed last week and won the man of the match on his debut at Leyton Orient and he could be joined by Benson when they return home to face Exeter City. Glennon was first and Benson has become Ian Holloway’s fourth signing at Blundell Park as Grimsby look to push further away from the bottom. They are currently 17th and are now 11 points clear of bottom of the league Stevenage.
Benson first appeared in our under-23s towards the end of the 2017/18 season, one of a number of players we had on trial at the time. He impressed very much and was signed that summer and became a regular in the team last season as well as making the subs bench for the first team last January when we drew 2-2 against Manchester United at Old Trafford.
He was part of the first team squad in pre- season last summer and travelled to the training camp in Portugal and featuring in some of the pre-season games. Since, he’s settled back into the under-23s and it has been clear for some time that he was ready for some first team football which he will now get at Grimsby.
He’s one of ten players now out on loan from the under-23s which will see us, undoubtedly, field a very young side tomorrow at Barnsley.
But this is good news for Benson and Burnley and we wish him well at Blundell Park.Share this page :
