Best wishes to the departing academy players
Included in yesterday’s retained list was the news that six of our under-18 squad have left Turf Moor after serving their two year scholarships.
While we would like to congratulate those who have been given a further year at the club as reported yesterday, it’s always a difficult time to see 18-year-olds leaving the club, some having been at Burnley for a number of years.
Unfortunately, due to circumstances over this last two years, Up the Clarets haven’t had as many opportunities to see them play as has been the case in previous seasons, making it more difficult to form opinions. But we would like to take the opportunity to wish all the very best to Ruairi Behan, Will Couch, Sean Etaluku, Jack Leckie, Joe Smyth-Ferguson and George Walters.
It’s similar with the under-23s with all of Harry Allen, Joel Connolly, Calen Gallagher-Allison, Anthony Glennon, Anthony Gomez Mancini, Joel Mumbongo, Richard Nartey, Sam Unwin and Ethen Vaughan also leaving. Although there was no mention of them in the club’s release, it is thought that Corey Brennan, Tremaine Eastmond, Lewis Thomas and Harry Williams might have also left the club.
Glennon was a regular in the under-23s in the first half of the season prior to going out on loan at Barrow; he’s one of two in that group with first team experience at Burnley having made three appearances in the cup competitions during the 2020/21 season; Mumbongo made seven substitute appearances in the same season in the Premier League and FA Cup but spent last season on loan at Accrington although it ended early with a serious injury. Nartey had been out on loan at Mansfield but made a number of appearances for us in Premier League 2 this season.
As with the under-18s who are leaving, we would like to wish the very best to all of the departing under-23s. We hope they can all find clubs ahead of next season.Share this page :
