Our under-18s won for the fourth time in the U18 Professional Development League at Coventry to move us up to fifth in the table.

Three of those wins have come on the road and all three have seen us score big. We won 6-2 at QPR and then 4-0 at Crewe in September and Saturday saw us record a 5-0 victory at Coventry with Vernon Masara scoring twice alongside goals from Zach Johnson, Jack Rogers and Callum West.

Saturday was the day that north group leaders Birmingham were beaten for the first time. They lost at home against Barnsley and that’ taken the Tykes above Sheffield Wednesday into second place. They are still five points behind Birmingham but do have two games in hand.

The one other game saw Hull move up to fourth with a win against Sheffield United who remain third from bottom in the table.

There was a full set of fixtures in the south although there is no result available for one of them. Top of the table there are Bristol City and they won 1-0 at QPR who, prior to this game had conceded goals at an average of more than four per game.

Second place Charlton were surprisingly held by lowly Colchester and that allowed Watford, who beat Bournemouth, to move into second place. The remaining game was the Welsh derby between Cardiff and Swansea. Cardiff won it and in doing so they moved above their rivals in the table.

Burnley are on the road again this coming Saturday at Sheffield Wednesday, the league’s leading goalscorers. There are three other games in the north with even Fleetwood having a game, and a full fixture list in the south group.

The player featured this week is double goalscorer Vernon Masara.
