Birch signs for Telford
Former under-23 right back Arlen Birch, who has been without a club since the summer, has signed for AFC Telford United this week on a short term deal.
Birch had been with Everton before joining the Clarets in 2015. He played for our under-23s for three seasons, the last of which was our inaugural season in the Professional Development League. He was released at the end of the 2017/18 season and spent last season with AFC Fylde, playing regularly for them in a season that ended with two trips to Wembley, one when they won the FA Trophy, the other in a play-off defeat against Salford.
He was released at the end of last season but has now been given a short term contract at Telford as they look to improve on what has been a difficult start to the season which has included a shock FA Cup exit against Nantwich. I have to say that the mere mention of Telford makes me shudder, more so when there is a reference to shock cup exits. My memory of our awful 3-0 FA Cup defeat there in 1986, albeit against a previous club, is still strong in my memory.
We’d like to wish Arlen all the very best at his new club.Share this page :
