Two referees have been promoted to the Select Group for the new 2023/24 season and neither of their promotions can be considered a surprise given that both were involved in Premier League games last season.

Darren Bond (top picture) and Tim Robinson are the two to move up to the top group of referees. Bond, from Lancashire, was allocated four Premier League games last season; the first of them was Fulham’s 1-0 win at Leicester in January and he subsequently refereed further games with two at Brentford and one at Bournemouth.

From Bognor Regis, Robinson had refereed the Burnley v Newcastle game in December 2019 but had to wait until March this year when he took charge of Wolves v Spurs, a game Wolves won 1-0. He then refereed Crystal Palace’s 2-1 home win against Leicester.

Bond refereed us four times last season. The first of those was the home draw against Luton with the next our defeat at Sheffield United. We did then get two wins with him in the middle, the 3-0 home win against Preston and the 2-1 victory at Middlesbrough on the night we clinched promotion.

Robinson also refereed four of our games last season, all of them away from home and all wins. They came at Sunderland (4-2), Hull (3-1) and Blackburn (1-0) in the league along with the 4-2 FA Cup win at Bournemouth.
