Darren Bond refereed our opening home game of the season against Luton and was also in charge at Sheffield United; tomorrow he will take charge of a Burnley game for the third time this season when we play Preston North End at all.

Bond had refereed us just once previously; that was the League Cup tie against Leeds in 2017 and his performances in Burnley games have caused us few problems and he currently sits in fifth place in RATE THE REF with a rating of 62.86 out of 100.

It’s a Lancastrian referee for a Lancashire derby and Bond is having a very good season. He first refereed in the Football League in 2012, a League Two game between Burton and Wimbledon and by February in the same season he was given his first Championship game, sending off Millwall’s Shane Lowry in a 5-1 home defeat against Peterborough, a game that saw George Boyd score its final goal.

Things have stepped up for him this season. He’s refereed 25 games and two of them have given him his first taste of Premier League football. He refereed Leicester v Fulham last month and just a week ago took charge of Brentford v Southampton.

In those 25 games there have been 115 yellow and two red cards. Of those yellows, 55 have gone to home team players and sixty to away team players. He sent off Cardiff’s Callum Robinson in their 2-0 defeat at Swansea and Hull’s Benjamin Tetteh when they lost 1-0 at Sheffield United.

Bond’s most recent game was one we were keeping an eye on, Fleetwood’s 1-0 FA Cup win against Sheffield Wednesday this week. Seven players received yellow cards in this game. They were Fleetwood’s Carlos Mendes Gomes, Cian Hayes and Promise Omochere along with Jack Hunt, Jaden Brown, Dennis Adeniran and Lee Gregory of Sheffield Wednesday.

The fourth official tomorrow is Ben Speedie. He’s been a Football League referee since the start of the 2020/21 season and is still to referee above League One level.
