The current football shutdown has brought an end, for now, to our match day collections which have been supporting the foodbank at Burnley Community Kitchen and, given the Premier League will be returning with behind closed doors games for the foreseeable future, it could be some time before the wheelie bins are back out around Turf Moor on a match day.

We started last August with West Yorkshire Clarets the first to man the bins and they’ve been followed by Accrington Clarets, Boundary Clarets, London Clarets, North Manchester Clarets and Up the Clarets during the season with our friends from Accrington the most recent to volunteer ahead of the Spurs game in March.

With demand for the foodbank even greater than it was prior to the UK lockdown, we are looking at other ways in which we might be able to help in the immediate future although any plans are still to be confirmed.

A decision was made unanimously at last night’s monthly meeting to make an immediate donation of £500 to support the work at the foodbank. We are delighted to be able to offer some help at this time.
