Premier League referee Thomas Bramall will take charge of our game at Blackpool tomorrow, just his second ever Burnley game having refereed the game at Watford earlier this season.

Newly promoted to the Select Group last summer, he was given his first Premier League game just two and a half weeks after our game at Watford when he took charge of the game between Fulham and Brighton. He’s added to that with further Premier League games at Bournemouth, Wolves, Southampton and Leicester, the most recent of them back in January.

Winning promotion to the top level in England has been rapid. He only joined the national list in 2018, refereeing Cheltenham v Crawley in August of that year for his first game. An injury restricted him to five games in the 2019/20 season but, fit again in 2020/21, he got his first Championship game at Preston in March and won promotion to Select Group 2 at the end of that season before moving up again a year later.

His one Burnley game didn’t give him high marks in RATE THE REF and he currently sits in 17th place with a rating of 50.30 out of 100.

Added to his five Premier League games this season, he’s refereed twelve in the Championship and four in both of the cup competitions which is 25 games in total in which there have been 76 yellow and two red cards.

The yellows have been evenly spread with 39 going to home team players and 37 to away team players. He sent off Watford’s Hassane Kamara in our game at Vicarage Road; the only player he’s sent off since was former Claret Robbie Brady in Preston’s recent 2-1 home win against Wigan.

Bramall’s most recent game came on Wednesday night with Grimsby’s shock FA Cup win at Southampton. Both teams had one player yellow carded, Duje Caleta-Car for Southampton and Grimsby’s Alex Hunt.

Fourth official tomorrow is Sunny Singh Gill who is in his first season on the National List and has refereed exclusively in the two lower divisions.
